Fox had not officially commented. However, a story published Wednesday by the New Jersey Star-Ledger quotes Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton as confirming the news. "Steven is doing 'American Idol.' The ink is dry on that," Hamilton said. "So, we'll have to work around his schedule for a new record." Hamilton added that "Steven is someone who absolutely lives to be in front of an audience, and the people closest to him know how witty and entertaining he can be. I don't know if 'American Idol' will be rock 'n' roll enough for him, but it is an opportunity for millions of people to see another side of Steven Tyler." Simon Cowell left "Idol" at the end of last season, while Ellen DeGeneres late last month announced she wouldn't be back. There was still no official word on whether Jennifer Lopez or Shania Twain would fill the panel's second empty seat. Fox is expected to announce the panel Sept. 6, Deadline said. Paid up Singer Erykah Badu has paid a $500 fine and will serve six months of probation for stripping as she filmed a music video at Dealey Plaza in her native Dallas, where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, the Associated Press reported. She filmed the video for her song "Window Seat" on March 13, and in April police cited her for disorderly conduct after a witness made a sworn complaint, the AP said. Badu paid the fine Friday, a city spokesman said.
